The Wife Drought is about women, men, family and work. Working women are in an advanced, sustained, and chronically under-reported state of wife drought, and there is no sign of rain.īut why is the work-and-family debate always about women? Why don’t men get the same flexibility that women do? In our fixation on the barriers that face women on the way into the workplace, do we forget about the barriers that – for men – still block the exits? And it’s an advantage enjoyed – even in our modern society – by vastly more men than women. It’s a potent economic asset on the work front. Having a spouse who takes care of things at home is a Godsend on the domestic front. It’s a common joke among women juggling work and family.

As the tales unfold, the timeline soon turns to the edge of the Regency period while it prepares for the exciting Victorian Era. I think the part in the book that moved me the most was when Jane lost her baby and Millie insisted that they couldn't give up and how she forced them to stay positive thorough out the whole story. THE CLEARBROOKS A sweet historical romance series by award-winning author Teresa McCarthy, where suspenseful, inspirational, and heartwarming love stories about a duke’s family bring the Regency period to life. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you? That whole section made me laugh out loud. She is hiccuping and burping and slurring her words and it sounds so real. I think I loved her narration so much due to the part where Millie gets drunk. She has different voices for all the characters. Yes, I love Pearl Hewitt! She has narrated all of the Clearbook novels and I think that in this one she really came into her element. Have you listened to any of Pearl Hewitt’s other performances before? How does this one compare? I love how she takes control of the situation, especially how she starts bossing Roderick around to keep him from being melancholy. There are so many memorable moments, but I think my favorite is when Millie sets aside her own disappointment and focuses all her effort on helping Jane and Roderick after the loss of their baby. What was one of the most memorable moments of The Mischievous Bride? This is one of my favorite regency series and it is the characters that make if so enjoyable. Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?įirst off I received a free copy from author for an honest review, that being said I loved this book and would recommend it to a friend. It's not often that a graphic novel moves me to that place, but this one did. You know, when the characters are so precious you feel like they've become your book child and you need to protect them and root for them. Vera's experiences at summer camp are something that all children go through at some point, in some way, and watching her learn and grow and find a confident sense of self gave me such readermom pride. I think it has to do with the fact that story is just so understandable.Īs much as it is Vera's story, with vibrant pictures and heart throughout, it was so easy to attach it to my own experiences I was rife with memories of moments I felt invisible, times where I thought an experience was horrible but it ended up shaping me wonderfully, and those times where I learned the hard way that friends that only like you when you're giving them something are not worth the work. I laughed with foresight and the knowledge that hijinks were fast approaching. I pouted and my eyebrows furrowed with concern. Oh I love the art work and I am a big believer that there is just as much storytelling to be had but my brain just typically prefers to cling to words, to form my own imagery based on the paragraphs on the paper.īE PREPARED was a definite exception to the rule.
